Affirmations for good health: The Physical Being - Health Affirmations Man is a composite being of body, mind, and soul. The body is the visible, tangible aspect of human beings. Throughout the ages people have been confused about how to regard and treat the body. The views have often been extreme views held by sects and people in different times and areas throughout history. There are those who are obsessed with the body and cannot look beyond. Their entire energies are focused on the body. These people generally end up over-pampering their bodies and live superficial, skin-deep lives. The greatest joy they know may be nothing more than hedonistic pleasure. Then there are those who in order to reach and realize their higher self, ignore or even torture the body. They mistakenly believe that denying the body will open doors to spiritual joy - which seldom happens. Gautama the Buddha arrived at this realization almost at the cost of his life. The sane and balance approach, of course, would be to adopt what the Buddha taught - take the middle path. Do not deny, disdain, or torture the body, and do not pamper it either. When we do either, we focus too much energy on the body. The golden 'mean' is definitely the right method and will save us from a lot of ills. Human beings, however, often fill their lives with complexities. Since the body is connected to the mind and emotions, it is affected by their ups and downs. More often than not, especially in today's turbulent era, the problems and diseases that beset the body are due to disturbances at the emotional level. Apropos, conventional medicine manages to do little good and is only successful at treating the disease at superficial levels. A problem that has been seemingly eradicated on treatment often reappears unless the deep cause underlying it has been treated. Caroline Myss in her book Anatomy of the Spirit traces many physical problems to disturbances with the seven chakras or power centers. For instance, problems like lower back pain, sciatica, gynecological, urinary problems, etc., have more to do with the lower two charkas - associated with mental and emotional issues like power and control, money and sex, ability to stand up for self, and creativity. It is therefore necessary to go deep to the source of the problem and trace the issues behind it. According to Caroline Myss, "Life crises that have issues of love at their core - divorce, death of a loved one, emotional abuse, abandonment, adultery - are often the cause of an illness and not just an event that coincidentally precedes it. Physical healing often requires, and may demand, the healing of emotional issues." The power of the mind is so tremendous, that if we use it properly even the deadliest of diseases can and have been cured. This truth has been known and observed for many years now. The American Magazine in so far back as 1947 quoted an instance: A 34-year-old woman came into a clinic. She looked almost 50 years old and had been suffering from insomnia, nervousness and chronic fatigue. She had sought medical treatment, but in vain. Being religious, she tried praying for the desired objective, but evidently to no effect. Matters worsened to the point of her wanting to commit suicide. The clinic psychiatrist discovered the root cause of illness. It was a deep-seated resentment towards her sister who had married the man she loved. Though she was civil and kind to her sister superficially, deep inside she seethed with anger and hatred. As a result of this, her emotional, mental, and physical states were at severe crossroads. The problem identified, she was counseled and cautioned that it was essentially evil to hate and that she must seek Divine help to free herself from hatred for her sister, and forgive her from within. She followed this advice sincerely. Though prayer and faith she affirmed a positive state of being and was able to tap a power greater than herself and forgive her sister. This cured her insomnia, her depression and her peace of mind was restored. Modern research experimenting with diverse healing systems cites numerous examples of cures of even deadly diseases such as cancer and AIDS by attuning the mind to positive thoughts and changing one's lifestyle to a simple and harmonious one. . .
