 | Law of Attraction: Everyday MetaphysicsBy Sherry Binkelman
We all live metaphysical lives, whether we are aware of it or not. What we desire becomes manifest in our lives. What we fear becomes manifest in our lives. When these things happen, we are experiencing the Law of Attraction (sometimes called the Law of Resonance.) The Law of Attraction states that we create (co-create with God) in our lives that which we focus on. The vibration sent out to the Universe of what we fear or desire or believe attracts to us things that resonate with our fears, desires and beliefs. Our lives are always in sync with exactly what we believe about our lives. To give you an example, I wanted to move from the city to the mountains. The vibration of my thoughts about living in the mountains brought about my buying a house in the mountains. The thought of living in the mountains prompted me to take steps to contact a realtor in the mountains, look at houses in the mountains, and eventually buy the house I now live in in Asheville, NC. I created my current living situation through my thoughts. Each thought about living in the mountains led to my taking a step in the direction of making that thought become a reality. Many of us believe that our creative abilities have limits because we were told by others that we are limited in our abilities. You may say, "Well, of course you can change where you live. We all know that, but there are other things that just can't be changed." Why would our creative abilities stop at changing jobs, locations, level of education, etc? If we can change where we live, why can we not change just about everything else about our lives? I can gain weight, lose weight, change my hair color and length and change many other things about my physical appearance. I can change occupations, increase my education, change husbands, change my physical surroundings, etc. I can even change the past by reframing it and thinking about it in different terms than I used to. I can certainly change the future by the thoughts I am thinking now. Where do these abilities end? I believe that they do not end . . . they only seem to end because of what we have all been raised to believe. If you can think it, you can create it. It is my belief that each and every thought we think opens a channel in the direction of the thing we are thinking about. The thoughtform that we send out when thinking about something can be viewed as a string we are sending out that will eventually reach the "object" we are thinking about, connecting us to that object. As we continue to think about that object, we "reel in" the object using the string, or channel we have created through the vibration of our thought. I used to spend hour upon hour trying to logically figure out how I was going to go about manifesting (creating) something in my life. I tried to think of every conceivable permutation of the logistics of an event. I thought that it was my job to force the circumstances of my life to change through sheer will. I know now that I have only to think about what I want, need or desire, and the Universe will take care of the logistics. I now decide what I want, visualize having it, and then look for the signs along the way. I think of these "signs" as road signs that point me in the direction of the object or event I desire. The road signs mark the way from my present situation to the one that lies waiting at the end of the channel or string I have created. The Law of Attraction works regardless of our awareness of it, just as the law of gravity was operating even before Newton "discovered" it. Wouldn't it be better to work with the Law of Attraction than against it? Knowledge of how this law operates is important if you want to work with rather than against it. If you are indecisive, you will have a difficult time creating what you think you want. It is important to hold your focus through thoughts and visualizations of what you want to create. Each time you "rock the boat" by having a negative thought about what you want, or by changing your mind about what you want, you are disrupting your natural ability to create. Writing down your creation helps solidify the process of instructing the Law of Attraction to attract to you that which you desire. Writing down what you desire, as a goal already realized, also provides you with a focus when your thoughts begin to waver from that goal. My "ideal" life, the one I would have created for myself had I found a genie who would magically grant me three wishes, has become a reality. I am my own genie. You are your own genie as well. What have you, as a genie, created in your life? Have you created peace, love, harmony and balance in your home life? Have you created a job for yourself that provides you with as much abundance as you want, need or desire? Have you created a job that fully utilizes your innate skills and abilities? If you have created all of these things, you already know how to use the Law of Attraction to your benefit. Something as seemingly simple as your next meal must be created by someone. Who do you think decides (creates) what you are going to eat at your next meal? No one but you is responsible for the thought that creates your next meal. God provides, but it is our responsibility to partake of what He has provided by bringing it into creation through our thought. God doesn't decide whether you are going to eat chicken or pasta at your next meal. He provides us with infinite choices, and the free will to make those choices based on our own personal desires. Consider your next meal. If you think of what you would like to eat, and then eat it, are you not creating that meal from your thought? Let's say you decide you want to eat lasagna for dinner. When you get home, your partner says he/she doesn't want lasagna and would rather have steak for dinner. It is your next (or final) thought on the subject that will create your meal. You might decide that you really want lasagna, and talk your partner into having lasagna too. You might decide that you would just as soon have steak because that's what your partner wants. You might decide it is okay if you have lasagna and your partner has steak. (Of course, you may decide it's all too much trouble and decide to skip dinner!) The decision that you make ultimately leads to the creation of your meal. Take a moment to think about what you believe about your ability to create (attract) whatever you want. Have you labeled yourself with limiting labels? We often label ourselves in order to categorize ourselves, but categorizing ourselves limits us. For example, do you think of yourself as athletic? If you do, you may have some limiting thoughts or beliefs about being athletic. You may have "learned" that being athletic is incompatible with being artistic, or mathematical. Or, alternatively, do you consider yourself un -athletic? If so, you have limited yourself through the use of a label. When you start believing that you are a divine being, you will begin to release the limiting thoughts and labels you have about yourself. Were you raised to believe that women don't __________ (fill in the blank)? Were you raised to believe that men ___________? Were you raised or taught to believe that money comes only to those who work hard? If you believe this, and if you believe that you are not a hard worker, you are limiting yourself in what you will create. Here is an affirmation that will help you open up all channels to the things you want, need and desire: "I am a divine being, with all abilities to create everything I want, need and desire." Experiment with creating something new in your life about which you hold a limiting thought or belief. For example, try to think of something you believe that involves a negative "always" or "never," such as "I never get a parking place near the door," or "I am always losing my keys." Change each of these to a positive statement such as "I always get a parking place near the door," and "I always find my keys easily." You will be amazed with the results. After a few days of using these affirmations you will discover that you are getting parking places near the door and that you no longer lose your keys every time you turn around. Once you have experienced success with smaller creations such as the ones above, try tackling something that you would consider more of a challenge. If a belief in your limitations is getting in your way, consider this an experiment in which you have nothing to lose. As each new creation comes into being from your thoughts (affirmations), you will begin to realize that there are no limits to what you can create. God is limitless. He has not decided that we will be given the ability to create only small things. He has endowed us with limitless creative ability, and it takes only our thoughts to create whatever we want. Now, go create your life exactly the way you want it to be!
