Palmistry

Palmistry: The Hand As Symbol Of Mystic Power

We all yearn for the improvement of our fortunes. So we wish to know the future. Palmistry is an effective reflector of what the future holds for us.

Indian ascetics have said that one should take a good look at the palms of both hands for good fortune and luck before getting out of bed early in the morning.

The hand is a symbol of mystic power for it mirrors the individual personality. Those who desire improvement, invigoration and achievement in their lives should rise early in the morning and look at their palms, and then rub them over the face lightly.

The hands have a language of their own - and in Indian classical dance, these are known as mudras which can represent both the strongest of emotions and the subtlest of moods. All deeds are performed with the hands, hence they represent the power of karma. The hand is also used to bless. The five fingers make us aware of the five basic elements of the universe: fire, air, space, water and earth. The ancient science of Mudra Vigyan is related to these.

In numerology, the hand symbol represents the number five. Jawaharlal Nehru's date of birth was 14 (1+4=5). He promoted the five-point doctrine (Panchsheel Siddhanta). Astrologically, the planet Mercury represents the numerology number five. It is special for youth and women.

A number of divine souls have five as their root number (Moolank). They gave the message of peace, amity, non-violence, kindness, and generosity to the whole world and risked their lives in order to eradicate poverty, untouchability and backwardness.

Several scriptural doctrines and yogic processes are laid down in the form of a five-point formula. Lord Shiva has five mouths, there are five plexus (pancha chakras), five-letter hymns (panchaashar mantra), five nectars (panchamrit), etc. Several festivals like Vasant, Naag and Rishi Panchami also reveal the importance of five digits, which, in the form of five fingers, are within our reach.

According to palmistry, the hand bears the full destiny that each individual will fulfil in his or her life. Astrologically, in the last decade, the effect of the stars on the number five was unfavourable. However, the stellar influence is now having a beneficial effect on this numeral which is well aspected in the Zodiac.

Indeed, the number five has regained half the power it originally enjoyed. This is an auspicious portent for the Congress as it assumes office. The number five is truly an appropriate symbol for our pluralist polity. The hand symbol with five fingers represents national integrity and secularism. Hindus worship God in the form of Panchdeva. Muslims perform namaz five times in a day. The Sikhs have their five Ks and Jainism its five Kalyanaks and also the Namokar mantra.

The hand symbol conveys a message of coexistence and sarva dharma sambhav. It inspires resolution for the performance of great deeds. It makes a difference not only to individuals but also to the lives of all people, making them peaceful and prosperous.

Whenever people look at the hand symbol, resolutions are made that will help India gear itself for the onerous task of achieving progress on all fronts, to reach the status of a developed country. For those who repose faith in this auspicious symbol, success is imminent; this is evident from the fact that the Congress, now returned triumphant from political wilderness, has done so with the help of its chosen symbol, the hand.
